Seasons Greetings! I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas & New Year! I have been home for the holidays and while home I have a tendency to stay in my pjs or sweats all day. It can be depressing, so going forward I will be getting dressed each day. haha- that’s kinda sad for a 25 year-old to be saying, but to quote Outkast, “I’m just being honest…”

Anyway, I rummaged through my sister’s closest for an outfit for a family Christmas. I chose a colorful skirt and accented it with the greys of the striped shirt, wool blazer and silk/lace belt. Yes, it may have been texture overload, but it was a fun outfit. I loved the lining of the blazer, so I rolled the sleeves and added to vintage earring on the lapel to substitute a broach. I wore patterned black tights, red flats and topped it off with a bow barrett.

I can’t tell you where anything is from, except the blazer. It’s J Crew.

As you can see… my hair is chopped! I was going for short bangs and kept cutting. I get bored with my hair, so switching things up is a must. I may look like I’m twelve years-old, but it’s perfect for the hot weather coming my way. I made the button barrette and sportin my staple cut-offs with a vintage (thrifted) belt.

For some reason I have Austin Powers in my head. Sorry about that. haha. So here are a pair of jean shorts someone was getting rid of. They were originally embellished with sequins (don’t ask why). I cut a few inches off the bottom and had some more fun with my exacto knife.

Below is a headband I made out of some extra fabric. I stitched some designs around it. Just a little somethin-somethin to spruce up the head. haha.

(pardon the scowl…the sun was in my eyes)

I’m in love with this top, I found it recently at the thrift store. And do you know when you have found a truly vintage and mostly old-lady find? When your grandmother comes up to you and says: “I have a shirt just like that!”, like mine did when she saw me in this top. THAT’S when you know your dressing oh-so-classy with a little bit of old-lady mixed in there. GENIUS!

The belt is another one of my favorites that I have thrifted (if you haven’t noticed by now I’ve got quite the obsession with belts, I love them!) The rings that I have on are super special to me. My mother was quite the fashionista, and I’ve hoarded all her jewelry for years! It wasn’t until a couple of years ago that I really started to see what beautiful jewelry she had and how well it went with my style. The ring with the oval green/blue stone in the middle of it is my favorite of hers and the gold one with the little ball has some sort of Egyptian hyroglophics on it. I’ll be sure to show you more of her amazing jewelry!

This outfit ties in perfectly with a song that I have grown to love oh so much this summer Black and Gold. Originally, it is sung by Sam Sparro but I fell in love with the version by Katy Perry that I found on the cd I bought at Starbucks (ssssshhhhhhhh! don’t tell anyone!) called Sweetheart ‘09.

I do not promote Starbucks,(even though they have great drinks and good music on sale) I’m rootin’ for the small coffee shops trying to make it in a big Starbucks ruled world! But I’ll jump off my soap box for now to go back to the fact that Katy Perry is amazing as a singer and does a GREAT remix of this song. (Have I mentioned that her style is the epitome of CUTE??!)

Tonight I hit the town for my friend, Isabel’s birthday. After some sushi and laughs, we stalked the Real World House in DC. Basically parked out front and took some pics until the security guard asked us to keep moving. ha! I never grew up watching the Real World- product of no cable. Regardless it was an adventure.

I’m pulling an all-nighter for my yard sale… too much to organize and label. I’m printing my street signs as I put this together, so I can justify blogging while there is much to me done. :/ A nap will be in place tomorrow, most def!

Have a splendid weekend… maybe even come to my yard sale. I’m just saying, it’s gonna be a happening place.

keep it {simple}

Simplicity is something that I love. Subtlety is what I desire to have in most outfits. The subtle accesories are the ones that can stand out the most. Oximoron? Perhaps. But it’s something I try to follow in fashion.

For this outfit, I used one accessory. These great pastel yellow earrings with bright pink and white flowers on them. I got them at a thrift store months ago and this is my first time actually getting to wear them!

Right now I’m listening the Belle & Sebastian. I was in the mood to since I saw the movie 500 Days of Summer and they referenced it. I almost squealed when I heard it! hehe. They’re from Glasgow, Scotland and are on my top five of indie pop groups. They are a must listen to, really. You’ll fall in love…PROMISE :)

Today was a good day!

I woke up early, had coffee with a dear friend and work wasn’t too slow. I love it when the day just seems to float on by, while I sit at work, listening to my headphones and working the time away.

When 5 o’clock finally came around, I high-tailed it over to my FAVORITE thrift shop, Unique, to meet up with another dear friend, Jessica, and do some thrifting on VIP Thursday!

She snapped a few photos of my outfit in the parking lot, so I could share with you all what I threw on this morning at 6 am!

I figure I’ll try and squeeze shorts in for as long as I can since summer is dwindling to a close and on will come fall with its leggings and layers. So I wore my favorite pair of high-waisted jean shorts, which are actually NOT thrifted (shocker, I know) and are just so comfortable-something that I can’t say for most things jean. The plaid shirt I got from the biggest thrift store I’ve ever seen in Texas while visiting my sister (it’s true what they say, everything IS bigger in Texas, including their thrift stores)

Raybans are from New York, and the earrings are from Forever 21. I must say that Forever or 21, however they want to be called, is pretty much my favorite place to shop when it comes to accessories.

HAD to include a pic of my new TOMS. They are my pride and joy, I’m so so happy with my purchase! They have writing on them that says, “If the world was a village of 100 people…”, then it goes on to say how the population would be when it came to things like diseases, poverty, etc. From an activist stand point, they’re really great ways to get the word out on the poverty in the world. And from a fashion stand point…well….I mean, just look at them! They’re epic!

There’s a special place in my heart for TOMS shoes, first because of the fact that it started out in Argentina and that’s where my family is from! These shoes are classic Argentinian style and when I visited there about a year ago, I saw SO MANY PEOPLE wearing them. It was really cool. TOMS is just such a great way to make a difference in someones life for not so much money, while also getting something I enjoy.

I got some fabulous finds at the thrift store tonight, probably will be posting about them soon! Until then:)
